BRIAN M. RESNICK

Brian Resnick is a partner in Davis Polk’s preeminent Restructuring practice and head of the firm’s interdisciplinary Liability Management & Special Opportunities practice. He is widely recognized as a leader in the field, including being ranked by Chambers USA where commentators noted his “unrivaled work ethic and ability to craft creative and commercial solutions to complex business and legal issues.” He was recently named one of Law360’s six Bankruptcy MVPs, an American Lawyer “Dealmaker of the Year”, one of Turnarounds & Workouts’ “Outstanding Restructuring Lawyers” and was featured as one of three “industry titans” at the Turnaround Management Association annual conference.

He leads all aspects of highly complex corporate restructurings and bankruptcies, representing debtors, creditors and other strategic parties in bankruptcies, out-of-court workouts, liability management transactions, financings, litigation and section 363 sales. I regularly lecture and write on bankruptcy topics, including co-authoring the book Credit-Bidding in Bankruptcy Sales and appearing on podcasts hosted by Debtwire and 9Fin. In addition to being a member of the National Bankruptcy Conference, he is a Fellow of the American College of Bankruptcy, and on the boards of Her Justice, and the Columbia Business Law Review.

In October 2025, he was honored with the Dream Big Award by Futures & Options, a nonprofit that helps young people gain career skills, pursue higher education and reach their full potential.

Outside of work Brian is an active supporter of the arts and won a 2019 Tony Award as co-producer of Broadway’s Hadestown. On October 19, 2021, he was presented by nonprofit WhyHunger with the Harry Chapin Humanitarian Award for conceiving of and producing the fundraising video Drum Together, for which he was interviewed in Rolling Stone magazine along with Ringo Starr and Pearl Jam’s Matt Cameron. Prior to becoming a lawyer, he was a Juilliard-trained drummer and percussionist who performed on Saturday Night Live, in a dozen Broadway shows, and with artists such as Art Garfunkel, Don McLean, Olivia Newton-John and Luciano Pavarotti.
