David Cox is the founding member of Cox Law Group and represents consumers, farmers, and small business debtors throughout the Western District of Virginia in chapters 7, 11, 12, and 13 of the Bankruptcy Code.

Prior to entering private practice, David served as a law clerk for the late Hon. William E. Anderson.  In 2013, David was inducted as a fellow with the American College of Bankruptcy and in 2017, he was appointed to serve as a committee member for the national ABI Commission to Study the Reform of Consumer Bankruptcy.

In addition to serving as an editor for the treatise, Bankruptcy Practice in Virginia, David has coauthored two books published by the American Bankruptcy Institute: Consumer Bankruptcy: Fundamentals of Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code, fourth edition, and Thorny Issues in Consumer Bankruptcy Cases, second edition.

David often writes on emerging topics in consumer bankruptcy law and is a regular speaker at numerous regional and national CLE programs.  He has been published in the Norton Annual Survey of Bankruptcy Law, the Norton Journal of Bankruptcy Law and Practice, and is a frequent contributing author to the ABI Journal.

David is active in several organizations focused on supporting and improving the legal profession and the insolvency community.  He is a permanent member of the Fourth Circuit Judicial Conference, the Chair of the Bankruptcy Law Section of the Virginia Bar Association, and a member of the American Bankruptcy Institute’s Board of Directors.
